The use of Terminalia Arjuna – effects and contraindications

Indications: Coronary heart disease, heart failure, any heart and lung diseases, high blood pressure hypertension, rehabilitation after myocardial infarction, painful heartbeat, increased nervousness, mental fatigue and mental stress.

Contraindications: Individual intolerance, pregnancy and lactation.

Arjuna has been used by Ayurvedic doctors for many centuries as a very effective tool for the treatment of heart diseases. Arjuna contains a large amount of elogin and arjunic acids, as well as b – sitosterol. Arjuna bark is used for ischemic heart pain, has a cardioprotective effect, and is used in the treatment of hypertension. Arjuna, this is a great heart tonic. Also, Arjuna has a tonic effect on the liver (especially in the case of cirrhosis of the liver), normalizes the heart rate and blood pressure. Arjuna reduces the amount of lipids in the blood, lowers the level of cholesterol, triglycerides, increases the synthesis of LDL substance. The mechanism of action is very significant in lowering beta-lipoproteins and restoring the body’s anti-cholesterol system. Clinical studies have shown that Arjuna is very effective in coronary heart disease in 40% of cases. Tree bark powder was also used for heart failure, heart valvular abnormalities. In 44% of cases, Arjuna churna helped with chronic bronchitis that accompanied heart disease.

Oral administration of an aqueous suspension of bark powder reduces bleeding and prothrombin time. Bark powder has a tonic effect in cases of liver cirrhosis, has protective properties for the cardiovascular system in coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, and helps reduce bad cholesterol in the body. Arjuna churna promotes effective heart function and regulates blood pressure. Also noted are the antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-aging properties of bark powder. Regular use of Arjuna churna after a heart attack greatly reduces the likelihood of further attacks, as it improves the strength of the heart muscle, reduces angina attacks much better than nitroglycerin, stimulates blood circulation and increases the flow of oxygen to the heart, and prevents blockage of coronary vessels.

How to use: 5-10 grams two or three times a day with warm water or as directed by an Ayurvedic specialist. When conducting a preventive course — once a day, preferably before bedtime, the duration of the course is 3 months. If you have a Kapha Constitution, it is recommended to take a powder with honey. If Pitta-take with ghee oil. If cotton wool – with milk and ghee oil.

Contraindications: individual intolerance to the components, pregnancy, breast-feeding, diarrhea. Before use, it is recommended to consult with an Ayurvedic specialist.
